Students Collaborate on Environmental Service Project

A group of Collegiate Lower School and Middle School students spent the morning working on a service project while learning from our campus grounds staff.
Two classes of Kindergartners and 5th Grade boys joined forces with Physical Plant staff members Robyn Hartley, Jeremy Clark, Josh Epley and Bryant Logan today to learn about the impact of runoff in the James River watershed. Both grade levels study the James River as part of their curriculum.

“We all pollute the river, but we don’t mean to,” Mrs. Hartley said.

After Mrs. Hartley’s demonstration, the students worked in small groups to clean filterras, which are systems for collecting and filtering runoff water before it drains into creeks and rivers.
