  • How many students attend Collegiate?

Collegiate is a JK-12 day school with approximately 1697 students.
Exact figures can be found in our Fast Facts.
  • When was Collegiate founded?

Collegiate began as the Collegiate School for Girls in 1915, located in downtown Richmond. The school moved to its current 55-acre location in Richmond's West End and became coed in 1960. We now have additional athletics facilities on our Robins Campus in Goochland County, just a few miles from our Mooreland Road Campus, and the Collegiate School Aquatics Center is located in Chesterfield County.
  • How are diversity and inclusion embraced at Collegiate?

Collegiate's Lower, Middle and Upper Schools host a student diversity group called Mosaic, in which students of various ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds meet informally to discuss issues related to diversity, plan awareness activities and sometimes simply interact socially. Mosaic Too provides a setting for Collegiate's faculty and staff to discuss and collaborate on how best to embrace and support our diverse students.

  • What is a unique feature of your Middle School program?

Collegiate alums include: Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson '07; film producer Michael Gottwald '02 ("Beasts of the Southern Wild"); fashion designer Sarah Hailes Easley '89 (co-owner of Kirna Zabet in NYC); Billion Oyster Project and New York Harbor School founder Murray Fisher '93; 2012 Olympic equestrian Nina Ligon '10; US field hockey team member Jamie Whitten Montgomery '03 and numerous others who continue to impact the world in positive ways.
  • In what ways is Collegiate unique among independent schools?

While preparing our students for success in college is a significant part of our mission, we intentionally focus on preparing them to succeed in life, in a global world where their critical thinking skills and creativity will help them make significant contributions. We are committed at every level and in every grade to expanding our students’ knowledge and understanding of the world in which we live and into developing their ability to become responsible and caring citizens.

Russell Wilson, quarterback for the NFL's Denver Broncos, graduated from Collegiate School in 2007. He attended Collegiate from kindergarten through his senior year, and he was a three-season athlete -- football, basketball and baseball -- and president of his senior class.
