Middle School Swimmers Shine in the Pool

Twenty-two members of Collegiate School’s junior varsity swim team competed at the 2018 Middle School Championships over the weekend. The meet, which featured 33 teams, was held at Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland.
Collegiate’s girls’ and boys’ teams took home second place overall, with the girls placing behind a powerhouse team from Holton-Arms School, and the boys finishing behind a team from St. Christopher’s School. With such a competitive field, every swim mattered and both Collegiate teams featured a number of contributors, with the boys outdistancing St. Albans School by only five points.

The boys’ team also broke both relay records. Dalton Jobe, Aaron Moore, Grant Armstrong and Christian Mayr, all 8th Graders, swam a 1:48.99 in the 200 medley relay to break the mark of 1:49.49 by St. Michael’s Episcopal School in 2009. Dalton, Aaron, Grant and Christian won the 200 freestyle relay with record time of 1:38.31, beating the 1:39.84 also set by St. Michael’s Episcopal School in 2009.

“I want to commend all the swimmers on their wonderful sportsmanship and team camaraderie,” said coach Collegiate swim coach Mike Peters. “There was not a single Collegiate swim that did not have a group of swimmers cheering them on. The future looks bright as a team!”
