Collegiate Hosts Annual Student Diversity Conference

Collegiate School hosted the annual Virginia Diversity Network Upper School Student Diversity Conference with seven independent schools from across the state in attendance.
The conference brought together 70 Upper School students from Collegiate, Episcopal High School, St. Catherine's School, Flint Hill, Norfolk Academy, Norfolk Collegiate and St. Christopher’s School to consider ways to make their schools more inclusive.

Participants conducted peer-led workshops focusing on different aspects of diversity, and worked on a community engagement project for  Native American artist Cannupa Hanska to create beads, each of which will represent an individual lost from the indigenous communities.

Black Liquid, an independent hip-hop artist, promoter, teacher, DJ and radio show host, works to empower youth through expression, performance and dance. He served as the conference’s keynote speaker and encouraged students to be the change they want to see in the world. He also led workshops for the students, teaching them that there can be a positive outcome no matter the beginning.
