Lower School Learns About Passover

Dr. Sievers explained that the holiday retells the story of the difficult journey of the Jewish people as they were liberated from slavery in ancient Egypt, and helps people remember their family’s history. She told the students that Seder means order. Families read the Haggadah, a Jewish text that sets the order of the Passover Seder, featuring six special foods displayed on a decorative plate. She said children are active participants in the Seder, asking four questions about why this night is different from all other nights and searching for the afikoman, a half-eaten matzo cracker hidden by an adult for children to find and receive a prize.
