Collegiate Honors Lizzy Marchant for Excellence

The 2022 Martha Elizabeth Schwarz Award is presented to Lizzy Marchant.
In 1985, Martha Schwarz, a former Lower School teacher, established an award to recognize a deserving Lower School teacher.  To be eligible for consideration, the teacher must have been teaching in the Lower School for at least seven years. A teacher may only receive this award once.

The following remarks were made by Head of Lower School Debbie Miller at the Opening of School Meeting, held August 2022.

Collegiate School teachers are known for the love of the children in their care. It seems like all the time parents are saying that their child loves this year’s award recipient. She is willing to help others and connects well with the children. Her commitment and passion for providing what is best for students comes through in her ability to grow the love of learning. She serves students in those important “middle years” of our Lower School, when students are skilled but still need support and encouragement to grow.

This year’s award recipient is reliable and follows through for the needs of her students and her grade level. When she was the team leader for her grade level, her steady manner provided wonderful support for her colleagues while keeping an eye on how to think about things in new and different ways. She is open and willing to work with her team in planning and implementing new experiences for the students and new ways of working together as a team.

This year’s award recipient is joyful and loyal concerning all things Collegiate. She is always viewed as a team player and one with whom collaboration is welcomed. She supports learning with inspiration and fun. She guides her students to extend themselves while providing the support required to build confidence and opportunities. Kind, warm and caring are all words that describe our award winner. Please join me in congratulating this year’s Martha Elizabeth Schwarz Award recipient, Lizzy Marchant.
