Celebrating Student-Athletes on NLI Signing Day

Collegiate Head of School Penny Evins, Athletic Director Karen Doxey, coaches and families gathered at the Robins Campus to celebrate seven student-athletes from the Class of 2021 signing National Letters of Intent or Commitment Documents to continue their careers as NCAA athletes. They join six classmates who signed in the fall. Congrats, Cougars! You make us proud.
Liam R., Swimming, Georgetown University
“He is a fantastic leader on the team, and has been so for a long time. Has been an amazing teammate, always stepped in. Whatever was best for everybody would also be best for Liam. At the same time, he has also shown dedication, hard work, drive.”
- Mike Peters, Head Coach

Kitchy H., Football, Hampden-Sydney College
“Not only did he make the team as a freshman, he started on both sides, offense and defense. He’s a passionate player, plays with great heart and emotion, and he rallies his teammates. I love watching him play the game.”
- Mark Palyo, Head Coach

Hunter M., Football, United States Naval Academy
“Three years on varsity, it has been a whirlwind. Passion, energy, excitement. This young man brings it everyday. There is something charismatic about him. He carries that to his team and onto the field. He is willing to give his best for his team.”
- Mark Palyo, Head Coach

John B., Football, Dartmouth College
“John is one of the few that came in as a freshman and started in varsity. John has been a captain and a leader, a driving force on this team. I can’t thank him enough for all he’s brought to the team and to the coaches. He’s a leader in our school community and on the field. He is a true model of that student athlete.”
- Mark Palyo, Head Coach

Warner C., Lacrosse, Christopher Newport University
“Sitting in front of your mom and dad at your middle school games, we knew that kid could play. You are the real deal, through the highs and lows of this journey. From the time you were a seventh grader, you have been able to find raw joy in playing the game. Warner gets more excited for other people than he does for his own success.”
- Andrew Stanley, Head Coach and Associate Athletic Director

Buck. O, Lacrosse, Sewanee, The University of the South
“One word: Passion. That to me is Buck in lacrosse. He’s a firecracker. The passion is why he came onto the field as a tenth grader and why he never left the field. When people know you’re giving everything you have, they trust you, they want to play with you. Thank you for being a grounding force in our program for longer than you realize.”
- Andrew Stanley, Head Coach and Associate Athletic Director

Bo B., Lacrosse, University of Richmond
“Bo is really different. Good goalies are really hard to find and really easy to spot. They have a way of carrying themselves and attitude on the field. Over the past year, the comfort you’ve developed reaching out to younger kids. Handling meetings on zoom. The way you’ve continued to persevere in the classroom. The example you set in your senior speech last week. I’m incredibly impressed. You’ve given us permission to take this program the next three or four steps.”
