Details for Return to Campus

Dear Collegiate Families,

We hope you are well and look forward to having your children back on campus on Tuesday, Jan. 19. As we plan our return to in-person learning, we want to highlight a few areas that are important for all of us to keep in mind. Please read carefully the following reminders and updates:

Health

  • The increase in new COVID-19 cases that followed winter break has tapered off, and many of the exposures reflected on our Collegiate dashboard will complete quarantine this week. Thank you for your part in supporting our community’s health. We continue daily monitoring of Collegiate and regional data as well as regular consultation with medical advisors.
  • The success of our fall semester and lack of transmission on campus gives us confidence in reopening. We remain firm in our protocols and committed to the health and safety of faculty, staff and students.
  • Our Responsible Cougar Pact is essential to our in-person return and staying open.

Exposure Awareness

A reminder that the CDC updated the definition of exposure to being within 6 feet for at least 15 cumulative minutes in a 24-hour period. Our Collegiate protocols are built around this guidance in order to avoid exposure, quarantine and illness. To inform your daily decision-making outside of school and so that there are no surprises, we share the following examples:

  • Given the constraints of contact tracing, if your child participates in an activity at which our Collegiate protocols (to wear face coverings, clean hands and maintain 6 feet between) may not have been followed, your child will likely be deemed an exposure and thus need to quarantine if someone in the group is positive. Note that this applies whether the activity is organized or informal, and that includes all types of activities including social, athletics, arts, enrichment and more. Though other organizations may not require the same level of COVID-19 safety protocols as Collegiate, we ask you to follow our standards as much as possible for risk mitigation.
  • A 10-minute carpool car ride to and from school would add up to more than 15 minutes, resulting in exposure, quarantine and possible additional illness, even if masks are worn.
  • Many of you have already been notifying us if someone in your household is exposed to COVID-19. We are now asking all to do so moving forward. Any student or employee in a household with an exposure should stay home and not come to campus until speaking with a School nurse.

Logistics
  • Please complete the Magnus health attestation app on a daily basis before coming to campus. We encourage you to use the daily reminder feature available in the latest version of the Magnus app.
  • With our return to campus, after-school activities including Quest, Arts and Athletics are scheduled to resume along with in-person classes on Jan. 19.
  • Please send your children to school with appropriate cold-weather outerwear, as we will continue to maximize our campus for outdoor learning, recess and more.
  • If your family is considering staying remote next week and your child is not enrolled in long-term remote learning, please contact your division head.

Thank you for your continued partnership, timely reporting, regard for protocols and mutual support. We look forward to seeing your children on campus next week and to staying connected with our remote learners, together as a strong and healthy Collegiate community. I have missed seeing your children and my colleagues on campus. As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Sincerely,

Penny B. Evins
