Collegiate Students Celebrate the Life and Work of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Collegiate 4th Graders in Jessica Catoggio’s class led the Lower School Town Meeting to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. on the date of his birth. The students shared information about Dr. King’s life and purpose, and how he changed American history with his words and actions.
They highlighted several of Dr. King’s quotes (“The time is always right to do the right thing” “No person has the right to rain on your dreams”) and performed skits to show how students might live them every day. To close the meeting, each student in the class read a part from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

In Middle School Advisory, students took part in an activity during which they read and analyzed quotes from Dr. King. Next, students wrote the quotes that resonated the most to them on Post-it notes and stuck them on their lockers so they could be visually and publicly reminded of the many important messages of Dr. King.
