Upper School Faculty and Students Bond Over Breakfast

Collegiate School seniors enjoyed an informal breakfast this morning with their Upper School teachers in Sharp Academic Commons to celebrate their achievements so far and to remember to finish the year strong.
Patrick Loach, Head of Upper School, encouraged seniors to lead themselves to the finish line and to continue taking care of each other.

Upper School history and religion teacher Brian Justice ‘85 offered inspirational words, including a phrase from Zen Buddhism, ichi-go ichi-e, which roughly translates to “a meeting once in a lifetime.”

Isn’t that what this is?” he said. “I mean, we’re never gonna get this back. This is a meeting once in a lifetime. This is it.”

Mr. Justice concluded by telling students that as second-semester seniors, they should relish the time that remains.

“Enjoy it,” he said. “Be in the moment and do it right and do it well. Finish strong. We are so proud of you all. We love you very much.”
