Cub Basketball Player Does It All

On a Tuesday night in January, the girls’ Cub basketball team coached by Dave Privasky and Andrew Reich faced a talented St. Anne’s-Belfield School team on its home court.
Against the aggressive Saints, the coaches switched defensive strategies several times, eventually finding success with man-to-man coverage. The defensive intensity of 7th Grader Abby Mayr proved outstanding, said Coach Privasky, and gave her teammates a boost. Two seconds before halftime, she nailed a distant 3-point shot just across the half-court line, giving the Cougars momentum before the second half.

“From offense to defense, Abby played her heart out and gave her absolute best,” Mr. Privasky said.

At the end of regulation, the Collegiate squad came up short against STAB, 22-18, but Abby had scored 9 of the 18 team’s points.

“Despite the loss, our team had smiles on their faces and focused on the fun in the game of basketball,” Mr. Privasky said.

He and Coach Andrew Reich were proud of the team’s performance, especially Abby’s efforts and growth as a player this season.

“Her positive, respectful and tenacious spirit is what we love to see in this program,” Mr. Privasky said.
