Collegiate Hosts Students from Partner School in Mexico

Collegiate School welcomed 17 students and two teachers from our partner school in Mexico this week to experience life as Collegiate students and with families of 7th and 8th Graders.
While at Collegiate, the students from Colegio Carol Baur are attending classes with their Middle School hosts and meeting with Lower School students. They gave a presentation and performed a traditional dance during an assembly for JK-2nd Grades and 6th-8th Grades today. They will also visit Williamsburg and Washington, D.C., after they depart on Thursday.

The partnership with Carol Baur, now in its 11th year, offers the school’s students a chance to learn about American schools and the life of an American family, says Middle School Spanish teacher Debbie Hailes, who helped facilitate the students’ visit.

“This cultural exchange is an opportunity for our students to learn about our North American neighbor, exhibit tolerance and empathy, and enhance their Spanish speaking and comprehension skills,” she said.

These exchanges allow Collegiate and Carol Baur to better understand the differences between the two cultures and appreciate all of the similarities, says Middle School Spanish teacher Daniela Guzman, who also helped organize the week’s activities.

“This is a chance for Collegiate students to learn and understand the real meaning of global acceptance and for kids from both schools to develop lifelong relationships,” she said.
