Emily Beggerow – University of the South (Sewanee), Track & Field
“I feel honored to get a chance to talk about Emily's journey in track and field. Emily has been an impactful member of our varsity track and field program since she stepped foot on the track in eighth grade. She was on varsity eighth grade, ninth grade, 10th grade. She competed for us in the winter and the spring. She set the tone at practice. She was competitive. She created an atmosphere for her teammates that they looked up to her. And when it came to race day, race race day, she competed. She's a sprinter. She runs a 200 the 300 the 400 the 500 the on an occasional 800 she was a big member of our relay teams as well. She currently holds a school record in the 200 which she set as a sophomore.”

Michael Chambers – University of Mary Washington, Baseball
“A steady presence and consistent competitor, Michael Chambers has been a model of patience and perseverance within Collegiate’s baseball program. On varsity since freshman year, he worked diligently for his opportunity to take over at shortstop, earning it with dependable defense and a calm presence that set the tone for the Cougars’ infield.”
- Coach Slater
Abby Carley – Virginia Commonwealth University, Field Hockey
“Abby joined our varsity team as an 8th grader here at Collegiate, and for the past five seasons, she has been the anchor of our defense. Her resilience, competitiveness, and sheer determination have set the tone for our program. Abby is the kind of player who literally puts her body on the line and loves every minute of it. She’s the first to ask for extra reps in practice and the one who raises the level of everyone around her. Her energy is contagious—whether it’s through a string of incredible saves or perfectly timed humor. Over the years, she has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the region, combining a love for the game with undeniable skill. Abby’s passion and presence have been a vital part to our team’s success over the last 5 years. “

Owen Lingerfelt – Hampden-Sydney College, Golf
A leader with both talent and humility, Owen Lingerfelt has been a driving force for Collegiate golf during his two varsity seasons. Taking over as the Cougars’ scoring leader midway through his sophomore year, he earned All-State recognition at the VISAA tournament and has continued to raise the bar ever since. People can’t help but watch him on the range—he hits it a mile. But where he has grown the most is in the short game, committing to the areas that lead to consistently low scores.”
- Coach Lewis
Henry Brost – Christopher Newport University, Lacrosse
“Henry stepped into the starting goalie role last season and immediately became a stabilizing force for the Cougars. His 65% save percentage and goals-against average of just over seven were among the best in the region, keeping Collegiate competitive in key matchups—including big games against Atlee, Christchurch, and St. Stephen’s. His consistency and poise gave us a chance in every game.”
- Coach Archbell
Rhodes Neuner – Hampden-Sydney College, Lacrosse
“A high-energy competitor with unmatched toughness, Rhodes Neuner has been a standout since his sophomore season. As a long-stick midfielder, he compiled 59 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers, and added offensive contributions as well. It's just so powerful. And to be honest, it's incredibly fun to coach.”
- Coach Archbell
Charlie Spraker – Denison University, Lacrosse
“Charlie was one of the most impactful specialists in the state last season. His 65% faceoff percentage and 92 ground balls were game-changing for the Cougars, and his improvement over the years reflects his commitment to the craft. Charlie cares deeply about lacrosse and about this program. He’s a great teammate, a great guy, and Dennison is getting someone who fits perfectly with their culture and high-level play.”
- Coach Archbell
Elle Garnett – Wofford College, Lacrosse
“Elle’s career stats include 34 goals and 25 assists. She is a dynamic attacker and a sneaky cutter. She makes everyone around her better and does it with a smile. Her laugh is contagious and can be heard all around our practices. She helps the team focus when they need to and is the first to crack a joke when we need it. She can be found terrorizing opponents defenders in our ride and forcing turnovers to help us get the ball back. Her hard work for years has put her in the position she is in today.”
- Coach Toohers
Neil Myers – Davidson College, Soccer
“A key member of Collegiate’s 2023 State Championship soccer team, Neil Myers anchored the midfield with poise, creativity, and relentless competitiveness. Playing alongside his older brother Tom, Neil earned First Team All-State and All-Prep honors, helping the Cougars control the tempo in the middle of the field throughout their title run.”
- Coach Ukrop
JD Chen – Dartmouth College, Swimming
“JD has been a 6-year member of the swim team and a 2-year captain. It is hard to imagine another athlete I have coached who wants to compete and win more than JD. Whether it is swimming in a state championship, getting dragged out of PE to head to Woodberry Forest to play as an emergency starter on the JV golf team, or just competing with friends in a simple game, JD is going to do everything he can to be successful. At the same time, JD is a consummate teammate. He saves some of his best swims for relays when he is relied upon. He is a 2-time All-State performer and was the Co-Prep Swimmer of the year where he also won the state title in diving. We are extremely proud and excited for him to head up to Dartmouth next year to continue his swimming career.”
- Coach Peters
Emory Deguenther – Duke University, Swimming
“Emory is a 5-year member of the swim team and a current team captain. Emory is one of the most reliable swimmers I have coached over the years. Whether it is swimming the 500, the 50, and all other events in between, she is more than happy to swim what is needed for the team. Often, Emory will be matched up in events and relays with our opponents' best swimmer, and she never disappoints. Emory has been the LIS Swimmer of the year in each of the past 3 seasons. Over the past 3 seasons, Emory is 20 for 20 in LIS and State individual and relay events, and if not for an unfortunately timed stair incident, would have been 24 of 24.”
- Coach Peters
Samuel “Preston” Green – Christopher Newport University, Tennis
“Preston Green has been a varsity standout since 8th Grade, helping lead the Cougars to multiple VISAA Finals appearances and last year’s Virginia Prep League Championship. His clutch performances, including saving nine match points against St. Christopher’s, have cemented his reputation as one of the most mentally tough competitors in the region.
In 2025, he earned All-Prep, All-State, and All-Metro honors, while also claiming Prep League titles in both doubles and team competitions. Preston is someone who sets a goal and then does whatever it takes to achieve it. He leads by example every single day.”
