Hockey Field Named in Honor of Karen Doxey

To celebrate the 35 years of excellence that retiring Director of Athletics Karen Doxey has dedicated to Collegiate, the School named the hockey field on Robins Campus in her honor. Knowing her preference for staying out of the spotlight, an intimate gathering of current and former colleagues, joined by her husband Jeff and daughter Brooks ’14, marked the special occasion with a surprise ceremony and luncheon. 

Doxey has been an inspiring leader, whose impact has been felt throughout Collegiate and across the country. “Karen embodies our core values of respect, excellence, love of learning, honor and community,” Head of School Penny Evins said during the ceremony. “As an Athletic Director, she has focused on bettering the experiences of all athletes and coaches — across levels and in all sports — while also continuing to be an incredible coach to her field hockey teams. Perhaps most admirable is her passion for every student — not only the athletic students — and their potential. She takes interest in the journey of children becoming their best selves and has offered parents sage advice for decades.” 

Among her many contributions, Karen Doxey played a pivotal role in Collegiate’s expansion to the Robins Campus. A shining example of the coach-mentor model, she led her Cougar hockey teams to an impressive 544-137-24 record, completing her storied coaching career on the field that now bears her name and will always hold a special place in her heart. 

An alumni field hockey game is being planned in her honor on Saturday, Oct. 29 as part of Homecoming Weekend. A plaque will be installed at Karen Doxey Field in the coming weeks.
