Upper School students signed the Honor Code in front of their peers and advisors this morning, pledging their commitment to the shared Collegiate value.
Honors Council student co-chairs Lauren Brizzolara and Brett Oney explained the importance of the Honor Code and how it reinforces Collegiate’s community of trust. Head of the Upper School Patrick Loach then shared a Samuel Johnson quote: “Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful.”
He told students that while Collegiate and its teachers care very much about them acquiring knowledge, they also care about them becoming honorable people.
“So when you sign the pledge this morning, it should be more than just a perfunctory act,” Mr. Loach said. “You should think about what you are doing and mean it. You should declare your intention to be a person of great integrity.”
