Inaugural Giving Day Surpasses Goal
Collegiate School held its inaugural Giving Day, a 24-hour, online fundraiser, today.
Giving Day invited all parents, alumni and friends to give in honor of a cherished Collegiate teacher who has impacted them and/or their children. The event was scheduled to coincide with National Teacher Appreciation Day.
The day began with a video of Cougie, the Collegiate mascot, making the first gift at midnight. Later this morning, Collegiate’s SCA student representatives greeted incoming Lower, Middle and Upper Schoolers during carpool. (Cougie made an appearance in the Lower School offering high fives to the younger Cougars.) Local NBC12 news reporter and Collegiate alumna Jasmine Turner ʼ11 “interviewed” Head of School Steve Hickman about the day’s excitement. Ms. Turner says she wanted to be involved in Giving Day because teachers’ sacrifice and hard work help push us to become the people we are.
“I’m grateful for my Collegiate experience and every person who was a part of it,” Ms. Turner said. “I’m more than happy to give back because of our teachers’ hard work and dedication. What I hope is achieved on Giving Day is just a small representation of their impact!”
Throughout the day, alumni, board members, students and friends dropped by the Alumni and Development Office to make calls, drop off donations and just say hello.
The goal was one gift for every Collegiate teacher, or 199 in total. By early afternoon, the number of gifts had surpassed 199.
“We are so grateful for everyone’s participation on our inaugural Day of Giving,” said Kristen Williams, Collegiate’s Vice President of Development. “It's been a record-setting day and we are so touched by the enthusiasm and support of the community.”
