Athletic Practices Begin for Collegiate Cougars

This week across the Mooreland Road and Robins campuses, the sounds of athletes at work fill the air.

The thump of a soccer ball being kicked, the thwop of a tennis ball sailing across the net, the click of field hockey sticks going after a ball. Football players clapping after each play. Volleyball players yelling, “got it, got it” as they lunge toward the ball. Cross country runners breathing in unison as they cruise the course.

The routine of daily practices has begun for Cougar football, field hockey, boys soccer, girls tennis, cross country and volleyball teams.

“It has that rhythm to it,” said Rives Fleming, coach of JV Cross Country.

Despite the week’s extreme heat, Cougars hit the fields and courts from 8-11 a.m. each day to prepare for their upcoming seasons.

“It’s nice to have the students back on campus,” said Beth Kondorossy, coach of Varsity Volleyball. “It’s going to be a competitive year.”
