Upper School Ecology Students lead an Acorn Walk

Collegiate Upper School ecology students led Junior Kindergarteners on an acorn walk, a student-led activity that closely examines oak trees and their ecosystem on Collegiate's campus. The group also reconvenied at the Pagebrook Outdoor Classroom on the Robin's Campus to work as scientists in the field, learning about plants and animals.

They focused on identifying characteristics of oaks, exploring how organisms like the bess beetle break down tree limbs into soil and investigating how acorns serve as food not only for squirrels, but for the acorn weevil larvae. Through singing, sorting and handling acorns and beetles, Collegiate students had an enriching opportunity learning together.
