Robotics Team Member Named FIRST Dean’s List Award Finalist
Collegiate School junior Emily Mendelson, a member of the robotics team TORCH 5804, was named a FIRST Robotics Competition Dean's List Finalist. (FIRST is an acronym that means “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.”)
Emily is one of four finalists from the FIRST Chesapeake District, which includes Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. and comprises more than 130 teams. She is one of roughly 140 finalists from more than 3,000 teams around the world. Ten of these finalists will be named to the FIRST Robotics Competition Dean's List at the World Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 26-30.
“I sincerely hope that I can encompass all of the hard work, effort and values my teammates and mentors have put into this season as I move forward in the FIRST Robotics Dean’s List competition,” Emily said. “I thank my mentors, teammates and the Collegiate community for cultivating such a supportive and encouraging community. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for the lifelong lessons I have garnered from this robotics program, and I am incredibly honored to represent Collegiate School in St. Louis.”
The Dean’s List Award, begun in 2010, celebrates outstanding student leaders whose passion for and effectiveness at attaining FIRST ideals is exemplary. Emily’s nomination was based on the Collegiate robotics team’s essay about her and interviews she underwent the past two weekends at district competitions.
