Cougar Alum Makes Strong Debut as Michigan Starting QB
His first pass as starting quarterback for the No. 7-ranked University of Michigan sailed directly into the hands of his University of Hawaii opponent. But Collegiate Cougar alum Wilton Speight '14 did not let that mistake set the tone for the rest of the game.
Instead, he regrouped and on the team’s next possession, led the Wolverines 98 yards down the field for a touchdown, the first of three he would throw in the first half.
“It was great to see Wilton be so successful in his first game as a starter as we knew he could,” said Karen Doxey, Collegiate’s Athletic Director. “He was very poised under pressure and it was so amazing to see him play that way in front of 100,000-plus people!”
Speight, a 6’ 6” junior, finished the game 10-13 for 145 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in a 63-3 victory over the Rainbow Warriors. His next game is Saturday, Sept. 10 at noon against the University of Central Florida.
