Former Collegiate Lacrosse Player Goes Pro

BY ASHLEY JONES
Congratulations to Collegiate alum Michael Howard ’12, who recently was drafted into the professional outdoor lacrosse league.

As the 55th pick of the Major League Lacrosse draft, Michael will be joining the Chesapeake Bayhawks as a defender. He is the fifth lacrosse player from Collegiate to be drafted by the MLL.

Michael currently serves as Long-Stick Midfielder for University of Virginia’s Lacrosse team. At Collegiate, Michael was a decorated athlete. He played varsity soccer for five years, varsity basketball for two years, and was a varsity swimmer for one year. While a member of the varsity lacrosse team, he was All-Prep in 2011 and 2012, and was named All-State and All-American in 2012. He is also 2nd place for all time caused turnovers in a season.

“He developed a desire during his high school career to perfect the technique and nuance of lacrosse in a way that is very rare,” says Andrew Stanley, Michael’s former Varsity lacrosse coach at Collegiate.

Coach Stanley says Michael was typically the best athlete on the field, and that his work ethic and resiliency combined with his natural ability, is what led to his success.
