International Emerging Leaders: Americas Spring Program Planned

Clare Sisisky, Director of the Responsible Citizenship Initiative, and Erica Coffey, Director of International Programs, have returned from a visit to our partner school, Colegio Carol Baur, in Mexico City where they planned the semester-long collaboration of our new International Emerging Leaders: Americas program for this spring.
They also had the opportunity to visit the nearly completed new campus, attend some sessions of a teachers' congress held in partnership with the United Nations, and participated in a service learning project to clean up a local lake with a biology class.

The International Emerging Leaders: Americas program, which takes place during the spring semester, focuses on human rights in the United States and Central America. Our students will engage in an in-depth exploration of Mexico and neighboring Central American countries, as they prepare to represent Collegiate at the International Youth Dialogue hosted by Colegio Carol Baur in early February.

This program focuses on sharing informed opinions on some of the region’s and the world’s most pressing challenges and working together to form resolutions through discussion and collaboration. Students also get to connect with their peers from the region and explore various historical and cultural sights during the seven-day trip. The second half of the semester focuses locally on Richmond and involve an in-depth service-learning program within local communities with strong ties to Mexico and Central America.Throughout this program, students focus on cross-cultural communication and leadership development.
