Cub Wrestling 2003-2004: Match Synopsis Vs. Norfolk Collegiate & Norfolk Academy Please accept our apologies, as this match synopsis is long overdue. After enduring a nearly three-hour bus trip two Thursdays ago, our boys took to the mat against two worthy opponents. The long ride seemed to steal away a bit of our customary fiery competitiveness; nonetheless, Coaches Lawson and Parker reported that our boys fought hard to keep pace with a talented squad fielded by Norfolk Collegiate and to defend their previous victory over Norfolk Academy. Overall, the day proved to be a success—out of the 38 matches wrestled by our grapplers, we won 20 of them. We notched another strong win over Norfolk Academy, but experienced our first taste of team defeat at the hands of Norfolk Collegiate. This defeat has us all licking our chops in anticipation of our rematch with this team on Tuesday; the 14-point margin means that a few more matches going our way and not theirs can put us over the top. We have been working diligently in practice to fine-tune (particularly in defending the head-lock and rolls) in preparation for Tuesday and for our final match against St. Christopher’s on Thursday. As always, our wrestlers showed admirable resolve in competing against the two Norfolk schools, and we continue to be fiercely proud of their efforts and of them as young men. GO COUGARS!
