Welcome to the first day of spring! Collegiate’s 5th Grade girls, and kindergartners in Molly Revere’s class, had opportunities this morning to learn from two parents about the celebrations of spring in India and Persia.
Farnaz Gazoni, mother of kindergartner Leila, shared details about the Persian New Year/Nowrooz - the celebration of the beginning of spring. In keeping with an ancient Persian tradition, students collected sticks to make a pretend bonfire, then jumped the “fire” while reciting a traditional phrase. They participated in a Persian dance party, decorated New Year eggs and discussed the classical Persian New Year's resolution of "good words, good thoughts, good deeds."
Arpita Gupta DePalma, mother of 5th Grader Sarina and 2nd Grader Nikhil, visited with 5th Grade girls to share the Hindu celebration of Holi. Holi is also known as the festival of colors and is one of the major celebrations in India.
