Thousands of books were loaded onto rolling shelves this morning by Gary Hall, president of professional book-moving company American Interfile, and his staff and transported from the temporary Middle School library trailer to the new Reed-Gumenick Middle School Library which should be back in use by the end of the week.
The cornerstone of this building reads “1960,” the year that north side of the Mooreland Campus opened. Since those early days of card catalogs and pin-drop silence, this library has served generations of Upper and Middle School students, but recent renovations have transformed the building into a bright, versatile space just for 5th through 8th Graders. Reflecting the way libraries function today, there are areas for conversation, mid-level noise and quiet study. There is a fully equipped tech space for Skyping and film viewing, and a flex classroom with a north-facing wall of glass that offers a sunny view of the central walkway connecting Upper and Middle Schools. Additional features include a special room for the Makerbot (our popular 3-D printer), movable seating and plenty of computer access.
