Rob Ukrop '88 Named Collegiate's Girls' Soccer Coach

Rob Ukrop ‘88 has been named Collegiate School’s head varsity girls soccer coach. He replaces Bill Rider, who stepped down this past spring after 21 years.

During his tenure, the Cougars amassed a 279-84-25 record, won the League of Independent Schools championship each spring from 1996 through 2011, and captured the VISAA title in ’08 and ’10.  His 1997 squad finished 18-0, ended the year top-ranked in Central Virginia by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and entered Collegiate’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.
“I’m humbled by the opportunity to follow Bill Rider,” Ukrop said.  “Bill has established a tradition of competitive excellence that we will look forward to building upon.
“I am thankful for the faith Mrs. (Karen) Doxey (Collegiate’s director of athletics) has in my ability to lead this talented group of young ladies.”
A soccer player par excellence at Collegiate, Davidson College, and the Richmond Kickers, Ukrop coached the Clover Hill girls’ team the past three springs and will continue to coach the Kickers’ girls U-18 and U-14 elite teams.
He will also continue to assist with Collegiate’s boys’ varsity soccer squad in the fall.
“Collegiate is truly fortunate to have had Bill Rider at the helm of the girls’ soccer program for the past 21 years,” said Doxey.
“We are proud of the great history and success of the program and know that Rob Ukrop will continue to build upon this success.
“Rob brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and playing and coaching experience as well as a fun personality and a lot of energy!
“We feel quite fortunate to have him on staff.”
