Campus Construction Update
A walk through the Middle and Upper School side of campus this morning revealed much progress on the various projects in the works and due to be complete before school starts.
The Upper and Middle Schools' building switch is providing a great opportunity for upgrades on both sites including some restructuring of room divisions. The reception and division heads' offices are moving to the former locations of faculty rooms and their old spaces have been opened up for classrooms. Old tile is being replaced, as well as infrastructure in ceilings and walls. The Middle School's amphitheater is just about complete, and distinctive architectural elements are now visible on the exterior of Reed-Gumenick Library -- inside, walls are being roughed in.
Flooring is being laid today in the cafe area of the Sharp Academic Commons, and the wrought iron flame above the fireplace is now attached to the stacked stone surround. The entire Commons is looking very almost-finished, with ceiling tiles, lighting, cabinetry and trim in place. It's getting much easier to imagine the building full of students and faculty enjoying the new spaces.
Faculty and staff are looking forward to their first experience in the Commons on August 22 when they will spend a day focused on the horizon of education -- a futurist from The Institute for the Future will discuss the signals they are observing that point to new ways of teaching and learning. And on the first day of classes, August 27, the Commons will be full of excitement and discovery.
