Goblins, Ghosts & Princesses Roam Campus

As has been tradition since the early 1960s when Collegiate moved to this campus from downtown, Halloween has meant costumes parades and class parties. These days, however, it also means coins.
Right after school started this morning in the Lower School, 1st and 2nd Graders put on a Halloween parade for their parents and older students. Then they walked up to the Upper and Middle Schools to continue the parade, but with one very important stop. One by one, they filed past an old clawfooted bathtub in the middle of the Upper School front hall and dumped their bag of coins into the tub. Called Ton of Coins, this Interact Club-sponsored annual event collects as many coins as possible from all grade levels, and the grand total is contributed to a scholarship fund for a Collegiate student in need.

"While the tub did not overflow, it was as high as I can remember --- that would put it in the $10,000 range assuming a large amount of silver and not too many Chuck'E Cheese tokens," says Lewis Lawson, Interact Club advisor and Ton of Coins organizer. "The outpouring from the Lower, Middle, and Upper School was truly impressive, a testimony to Cougar Spirit."

Many thanks to those who dropped some change in the tub. Have a happy and safe Halloween night!
