Nina Ligon '10, who will represent Thailand in the equestrian sport of eventing July 29-August 2 at Greenwich Park, is in the final stages of her preparation.
Nancy Reed, a passionate equestrienne who retired last month after teaching computer for 26 years at Collegiate, provided this update.

(Note: The upper levels of eventing are designated by the number of stars, like restaurants. This weekend Nina had one horse in the two-star (**) event, and two horses in the higher level, three star (***).  The Olympics are supposed to be four star (****, the highest) but usually the cross country course is on the soft side of four-star and closer to a three because there are so many countries involved and so many levels of competence of horse and rider.)

Nina competed this weekend at Barbury Castle and had a good outing. She had no cross country jumping faults in the **event with Tipperary Liadhnan and no cross country jumping faults in the ***event with Butts Leon. Jazz King was going well in the ***cross country when he lost a shoe about three-fourths of the way around; Nina wisely retired with him rather than risk an injury. There were about 109 competitors in the *** serious, big-league competition which provided a great atmosphere..  Nina also had a chance to try out the Olympic ****dressage test.
There is a wonderful three-part video interview with Nina at “@HorseMoveTH: Nina's Olympic Dreams : Interview on ASEAN TV, 28 June 2012 http://t.co/WATpap61” #teamthailand #london2012 #equestrian.  In the interview, Nina revealed that she is, at 20, the youngest competitor in the Olympic eventing competition.
Barbury was probably Nina’s final competition before the Olympics; it is the last for the Americans, Brits, and Australians. The Canadians will go to Gatcombe Park for their final outing. (The US team candidates did very well at Barbury. That team will be announced Monday.)
Eventingnation.com has a link to all the scores: [Barbury Live Scores] as well pictures and an unbelievable video of Clayton Fredericks's wonderful cross country save in the **event.
You can follow Nina and Samantha Clark on Twitter at @NinaLigon and @SamanthaLClarke.  Samantha was tweeting live from Barbury all weekend and taking wonderful pictures. I am certain she will be tweeting from London as well.
