Russell Wilson '07 Teaches Passing Skills and More
It's an unusually warm and sunny weekend for January, perfect conditions for the first ever Russell Wilson Passing Academy at Collegiate. More than 70 boys in grades 5-11 showed up at 10 a.m. this morning, ready to learn from former Wisconsin QB and hometown hero Russell Wilson, class of '07.
Wearing t shirts and jerseys of favorite teams ranging from Redskins to Badgers, the boys ran through a number of warm-ups and excercises under the supervision of Russell and his assistants -- Cole Hawthorne '07, Scott Pickett '07, Jake McGee '10, Trei Kelley '10, Russell Harper '10 and Travis Lane, Hampden-Sydney quarterback. At a water break, Wilson invited the boys to ask him questions about anything related to football and they eagerly took him up on the opportunity. How did it feel to play in front of so many people? What was it like in the locker room after their first loss? What's his favorite NFL team? His answers were humble and non-committal....keeping those NFL options open. His message is consistently about staying positive and aiming high.
The boys will be back out on the Grover Jones Football Field tomorrow for the second part of the clinic with more footwork, passing and fun. Thanks, Russell, for spending some time on your old home turf!
