Collegiate School’s Director of Athletics Andrew Stanley, coaches, teammates and families gathered in the Craigie Boardroom of Sharp Academic Commons to celebrate 11 student-athletes from the Class of 2023 for their commitment to continuing their careers as NCAA athletes. Congrats, Cougars! You make us proud.
Anna Armstrong, lacrosse, William & Mary
“Anna can be best described as fearless, physical, confident and smart. She understands the game so well and has maturity beyond her years that will be perfectly suited for the college level. All of these qualities make Anna a revered athlete. But what I admire most about her is what she does off the field — those intangible elements that make up a true teammate that cannot be taught. She is selfless, she puts her teammates first, she compels others to get better and she works when no one else is watching. I truly cannot wait to see what she accomplishes at William & Mary.”
-Christina Dobson, Head Coach
Jack Barnes, golf, Hampden-Sydney College
“Jack has a commanding presence on the course, catching the attention of other golfers and coaches. Jack embraces the team aspect that high school golf offers. He is an enthusiastic supporter of Collegiate golf, which will make him a great captain on the 2023 team this year. I’m confident that his relentless effort on the range, coupled with his enthusiasm for the team, will make him an immediate impact player at Hampden-Sydney next year.”
-Jeff Dunnington, Head Coach
Jordan Deane, volleyball, Kenyon College
"Jordan is one of the most hard working and determined athletes. When dealt a difficult hand, she just keeps showing up and putting in the work. Because Jordan shows up every day wanting to be better, she is beloved by her teammates who eagerly celebrate her successes. We couldn't be more excited for her."
-Rose White, Head Coach
Emily Kantner, swimming, Duke University
“Emily demonstrates the perfect balance of happiness, positivity and relentless perseverance in the pool. I know Emily has worked extremely hard both in and out of the pool to achieve her goal of heading to Duke University and I could not be happier for her.”
-Mike Peters, Head Coach
Matthew Jenkins, soccer, Washington and Lee
“Matthew has been all in with his teammates, all in with the School and put the team first. He’s a dynamic player. But most importantly his work rate, his hustle and his effort in trying to make the players around him better is probably some of the best we’ve ever seen at Collegiate. We’re proud of what he’s going to do for the Washington and Lee team.”
-Rob Ukrop, Head Coach
Izzy Lee, field hockey, Georgetown
“Izzy is a fierce competitor, steadfast in her efforts. She is high achieving, coachable and fun. I can see the passion she has for her sport. She has been a fantastic captain this fall, showing great leadership to those who look to follow in her footsteps in the coming years. She is someone who will truly play any position on the field because of her poise, vision, awareness, game sense and skill. These are all key characteristics to excelling at the division one level. We will miss her personality, leadership and talents next year but we look forward to cheering her on at Georgetown.”
-Kelsey Smither, Head Coach
MK Myers, cross country, Elon University
“MK is a great teammate, she’s a hard worker and she’s had a lot of success in the field of distance running. She always brings a toughness and a team attitude to our team. We’re extremely proud of her, and I know she’s going to do a great job at Elon.”
-Matthew Richardson, Head Coach
Eli Petty, lacrosse, University of Virginia
“His character, leadership abilities and how he truly cares for his teammates and the success of the Collegiate’s lacrosse program are impressive. Committing to a perennial national champion like UVA lacrosse comes with an enormous amount of pressure and negative attention from opponents. Eli handled that all with grace and humility. He is constantly working to improve his game both on and off the field as well as push his teammates to be better.”
-Zack Schroeder, Head Coach
Hudson Pace, golf, Lafayette College
“Aside from his many on-course accolades, Hudson has been a consistent and quiet leader on the team. His humble leadership projects a special charisma that his teammates cling to and is noticed by all that are around the program and our opponents. As captain of the 2023 team, Hudson will look to help guide the team to new heights. Lafayette is lucky to be gaining a great golf player and a better young man.”
-Jeff Dunnington, Head Coach
Luke Smith, basketball, University of Chicago
“Luke is an All-State, All-Prep performer, a walking double-double. We could not be as successful as we are without him. I’m proud of Luke for being his own man, for choosing his own path. Luke is the true essence of a student-athlete, and we’re all so excited for him.”
-Del Harris, Head Coach
Frances Thackston, soccer, Roanoke College
“Frances has the right ability, the right team-first mentality. As a strong leader, she has been an important part of our team. We’re so excited for the upcoming season at Collegiate and we can’t wait for all the great things she’ll accomplish at Roanoke.”
-Rob Ukrop, Head Coach
