We are writing with updated safety protocols in preparation for our return to campus on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. We remain steadfast as we strive to keep our community of students, faculty and staff healthy and preserve continuity of in-person learning when possible.
We are ready to implement the CDC’s updated guidance, which has now been reviewed by VDH with considerations for schools. We have refreshed our COVID-19 quick reference guide with important updates. Please click here to review.
Your familiarity with these updates and adherence to our protocols are essential elements for our success and shared goals for our students, your children. We are grateful for your partnership during this challenging time. In addition, we are very thankful for our medical advisors for their continued support, advice and time, especially during the recent holiday season.
Here are abbreviated updates:
Isolation and quarantine times are reduced and aligned with CDC recommendations, determined by one’s vaccination status, and dependent upon being asymptomatic or symptoms resolving. Please see the reference guide for specifics.
Our school-specific quarantine requirements consider vaccinated to mean anyone who has completed their primary vaccination series (Pfizer or Moderna two-shot, or J&J one-shot), with the necessary two weeks following the final dose. Booster shots are not available or approved for a large segment of our population. We strongly support the CDC’s recommendation for vaccinations and boosters.
Due to the high demand for and low availability of COVID-19 tests, we are now accepting at-home FDA-approved tests. See guide for details on submission.
Protocols will continue to be evaluated and are subject to change in response to the changing landscape of the pandemic.
Remote Learning Opportunity Expanded
As of January 2022, we have updated our online learning protocols for ill students due to the prevalence of Omicron, bronchitis, flu and the strain on the testing supply chain. For those who are symptomatic and awaiting testing / results, as well as those who are known exposures and positives, Collegiate is offering online learning. In order to allow time for preparations to be made and materials picked up for synchronous learning, Lower School will have a 48-hour period and Middle School a 24-hour period before online learning begins. Upper School does not have a waiting period. Our goal is to provide continuity of learning for those who feel well enough and wish to continue their studies, while also mitigating risk and maintaining a healthy environment on campus. Of course, taking a sick day(s) is always an option as needed and we encourage rest and recovery.
Please reach out to your division head if you have any questions or in case of symptoms, a positive test or exposure. Divisions will make arrangements for remote learning and will inform our school nurses for medical follow-up as needed.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate the pandemic together. We look forward to seeing each other on Monday, Jan. 3.
