Karen Doxey

35 years

It’s an honor to talk today about Karen Doxey – one of the greatest people I know, and one who has had such a tremendous impact on Collegiate. I have tried to narrow it down to the core of
WHAT MAKES KAREN GREAT

1st of all, there’s the person – she is just a person of great character

First, she’s Talented – everything she does, she does well
3 sport college athlete – not many of those around
As a professional, she would come into a job like NA or Collegiate and be so good she would be promoted up the ladder within a few years – from teacher to head of PE to AD

2) she’s a Hard worker – look at the time she is emailing, or coaching, or meeting, or phoning, or out on the fields supporting everyone – she has given so much of herself to this program and this school

3) she has Class – she always carries herself with such dignity, and she models this for her teams and fellow coaches. She embodies the sportsmanship we strive for as a school

Secondly, she’s A GREAT COACH

As a fan, you can see how good her teams were– 3rd in the country as a high school FH coach with 641 wins. Her teams are always well coached

As a fellow coach, I think she is one of best teachers as a coach – she plans and executes her practices and game plans so well. She makes every player better and feel like a part of the team.

As a parent who had 3 daughters play for her, I was impressed how she pushed them, made them successful, but also cared for them as people. It is staggering to think of the number of players she has had this influence on. See the impact she had them on the team and in her lives that still resonates today

3) Third, she is A GREAT LEADER - as an athletic director but also a mentor / role model to so many

FAIR
Our athletic department has been so successful because Dox treated everyone fairly and with respect. Our female athletes versus our male athletes, our varsity teams versus our cub teams – everyone gets fair treatment from the Dox

HIGH STANDARDS – She is rooted in the right way to do athletics, and she has modeled and led our program to do things the right way. I have to admit I still get nervous when she walks into my practices because I want to live up to her standards

COURAGE to lead – Karen has always had a clear vision of what is the right way; she does what is best for the kids, the athletic program, and the school. And she was not afraid to stand up for what is right, not afraid to have a tough conversation – which is not always easy to do

Thank you, Karen, for everything you have done for so many athletes, coaches, and members of the Collegiate community. People even made up a bumper sticker about her, which rings true

DOX ROCKS
