A fifth-generation educator and the son of two former heads of school, one boarding and one day school, Brian Leipheimer’s life has been steeped in the independent school world. His career has spanned three decades, beginning as a full-time Upper School history teacher and three-season varsity coach before moving into the admission and college counseling offices at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School in Alexandria, VA. He joined Collegiate in 2001, working as the college counseling office’s first associate director along with teaching US history and coaching wrestling and soccer, and became the director of college counseling in 2006. Over the years, Brian has counseled nearly one thousand students, visited hundreds of college campuses, presented at national conferences, and chaired a variety of committees at the school, state, and regional levels. Yet, he considers himself a teacher at heart, just with a different sort of classroom, and revels in the belief that every student has a story to tell; learning and telling their stories, while helping them navigate their paths through the college process, brings him the greatest joy and reward.
