Collegiate Student Garners National Attention for Salesmanship and Philanthropy

Collegiate School rising 8th Grader Beck Garnett spent much of last year doing something he loves: selling popcorn on behalf of the Boy Scouts. However, rather than raising money solely for Troop 444, which he has been a member of since 3rd Grade, Beck chose to donate the $17,000 commission he earned from selling more than $50,000 in popcorn in 2017 to help other troops in the region - by assisting Scouts who couldn't otherwise afford camping equipment and by helping fund the creation of a Scout troop in underserved communities.

Beck's efforts have led to his ranking of second in the nation in overall sales since 2016 and he has been the top seller in Virginia since 2014. He also is the top online seller of the popcorn in the nation.

Beck's efforts were featured in a front-page Richmond Times-Dispatch article this summer. Click here to read. This video also showcases his commitment to serving his community, and his fellow Scouts, through his excellent salesmanship.

Beck is already working hard in his 2018 popcorn sales campaign and has raised $13,000 since Aug. 1, a trajectory that could land him the No. 1 spot in the nation. Congrats and bravo, Beck!
