Arts
The music program offers students opportunities for cultural and aesthetic experiences through active participation in music in a variety of ensembles and private study. The department produces and sponsors musical events that enhance the cultural life of the campus, the school community and the Richmond area. Its goal in and out of the classroom is to create a musical community that is rich with cultural, social and intellectual diversity.

Instrumental Music

The ability to create music through improvisation, composition or imitation helps each student comprehend the concept of music as a language. As musicians, students are not only challenged to learn what it means to be a member of a music ensemble but also to meaningfully interact with other members during a rehearsal or performance. Among the many benefits of playing an instrument is the ability to develop skills that are learned by playing standard solo, ensemble, orchestra and jazz literature. This allows a path for our students to become knowledgeable advocates, performers and teachers of music in society. In order to enhance the music ensemble experience, private instruction is offered with members of the private teaching faculty that are among the very best in the Richmond area.
