Discover the James River

Robby Turner
Rising 3rd – Rising 7th Graders
June 24 – 28 • 1 – 5 p.m.
Bring a filled water bottle from home each day.
The James River is Virginia’s largest river and it flows right through our backyard. Come join Mr. Turner this summer as we explore as much of this great river as we can. We will rock jump on the backside of Belle Isle, tube, kayak and paddleboard on various parts of the James, search for secret swimming holes and investigate beaches and trails that are home to many different types of wildlife.
Campers should come to camp each day expecting to get wet (bathing suits, river shoes/old tennis shoes, sun screen and towels) and stay busy. We will load our bus each day in front of Luck Hall, located on Collegiate’s Lower School side of campus, and head to the river. Tubing and rafting excursions will be supervised by Riverside Outfitters, who will also provide life jackets. This camp filled to capacity last year so sign up early. For more information, visit
Robby Turner has been “playing” on and around the James River for many years. He will be assisted in this camp by Rives Fleming who is entering his 27th year of teaching at Collegiate in the Middle School.
