Text Detectives: Reading Comprehension Camp
Rising 6th - Rising 7th Graders
June 18 - June 29

Are you great at remembering to text your friends but not as great at remembering the text in your books?  If so, Text Detectives is the camp for you.  This class will teach you to approach books like a detective, using systematic strategies to discover meaning and information.  You will learn active, multisensory comprehension strategies for reading both fiction and non fiction while doing it in a fun setting.  We will use games, art and movement to master reading strategies.  During the two week camp, you will read a variety of texts, including one required summer reading book.  
Lindsey Melvin has been a Middle School teacher and tutor for 19 years, 11 of them at Collegiate.  She has provided extensive support to students through the Academic Services Department and is currently a seventh grade history teacher.  Mindy Romanosky, in her 17th year of teaching, has taught at the elementary and middle school levels.  A reading specialist, she currently teaches sixth grade reading and English at Collegiate.
