Fifty is Nifty For The Cat in the Hat
On Friday March 2, the entire Lower School at Collegiate celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss. At 2 p.m., every classroom in the Lower School was reading this classic text, and many of the classrooms got into the spirit of the day with special hats, and even whiskers...
The fiftieth anniversary of Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat was celebrated at the Lower School in a big way. There was a fabulous Cat in the Hat display in the library by a couple of parents, the Thalhimer sisters, which put everyone in a festive mood. One of the librarians, Mrs. Williams, wore a crazy hat all day long. Head of Lower School Dr. Hunter wore a bespeckled Cat in the Hat sweater. Mrs. M. Watson, first grade teacher, had a special shirt to go along with a great hat. Mrs. Shelley's kindergartners added whiskers to go along with their decorated hats. As one went from classroom to classroom, it was easy to see Collegiate's emphasis on the enjoyment of reading, from the enthusiasm of the teachers, to the rapt attention given to them by their students as the familiar words were read aloud.
