Upper School Classes still available.

Dear Summer Quest Families,

We hope this communication finds you and your family well. As promised, we are reaching out to provide you with an update on the status of Collegiate’s Summer Quest camp programs this summer.

We have been closely following the advice of public health authorities, surveying our families and virtually meeting with other schools in our independent school community regarding decisions about operating camps this summer. We have found every school and summer camp provider across the country is wrestling with the same issues and decisions as Collegiate School. It is hard to plan with so much uncertainty about when and how our community will regroup in-person this summer as a result of COVID-19 and corresponding state mandates. The health and safety of our campers, parents and staff is paramount. If even possible to do so, the School does not believe it can adequately plan for and serve students in-person with an ease-in reopening and continued social distancing requirements. Thus, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel all in-person camps this summer. With your feedback from the recent Summer Quest survey, we have also made the decision not to offer online, virtual camps for grades JK-8. We will still be offering for-credit, Upper School courses and College Application Jumpstart classes in a virtual format, and we plan to increase our Upper School offerings.

We are disappointed to cancel the in-person summer programs and know this news is disheartening for you. We understand the importance summer camps play in the lives of all children who participate. Collegiate values timely information and we want to
provide ample time for you to create alternative plans for your children this summer.

Be assured; we are going to issue full refunds for all canceled camps. We will be in touch with a timeline for doing so.

The Collegiate Summer Quest team sincerely thanks you for choosing our programs. Your trust in our experiences is invaluable to us. We take your endorsement very seriously and it is why we want to say we do not feel capable of providing the quality of program that you are used to at Collegiate. COVID-19 requires us to claim safety and
well-being as our priority and as such, this is the first summer in 50 years that the Collegiate campus will not be filled with the joyful sounds of children engrossed in experiential learning. We will miss the presence and delight of such interactive fun.

Collegiate is busy planning Summer Quest 2021 with a goal to make it our best summer yet! We can’t wait to welcome our Summer Quest families back, in-person next summer!

In the meantime, please stay safe, find joy where you are able and let us know if you have any questions. We can be reached at summerquest@collegiate-va.org, 804.665.1750 or 804.741.9714.

"As the Director of Summer Quest, I work alongside our teachers and coaches to fill the summer with programs that challenge students mentally, physically and socially. It has been an amazing experience to watch our educators meticulously create, plan and execute their camps. They do an excellent job of creating an environment that allows for learning, exploration and fun!"
