Programs in the Upper School Include:
AP Spanish has an on-going service and curricular partnership with the Saturday Academy at a Richmond elementary school. The Academy serves Spanish-speaking students and families with homework help, enrichment activities and skill development. Collegiate students build their oral proficiency in the Spanish language and assist the program every week with tutoring and mentoring.
AP Calculus students engage with elementary age students in Richmond for in-depth math tutoring one-on-one. Collegiate students keep their math skills and teaching abilities fresh whilst modeling an interest in the subject for the elementary students in need of support.
Visual Arts students curate their pieces from their portfolios that would be a good fit for display at the Reinhart House of St Mary’s Hospital. The students think carefully about the residents and guests at the guesthouse for families of patients in long-term care at the hospital, and host an opening reception for the community to attend.
Upper School Student Leadership in Service Includes:
The Collegiate Community Council (CCC), a student-elected council comprised of representatives from each class, has a mission to provide and facilitate a variety of volunteer opportunities for the Upper School Collegiate community. They coordinate a wide range of events and opportunities relating to service, and advise the school leadership on issues relating to service.
Community Service Opportunities Include:
Community service has thrived in the Collegiate Upper School community for decades, and continues to be a foundational part of our students’ experience. A variety of projects and programs are organized each year with commitments that range from weekly involvement to one-day events. Some opportunities are school-wide such as advisory participation in preparing lunches for Collegiate’s Stone Soup program. Many students are involved in on-going service through one of the many active service clubs listed above.
