Robotics Team Headed to World Championship
For the second time in three years, Collegiate School's Upper School robotics team is heading to the FIRST Robotics World Championship. The team, TORCH 5804, won the opportunity after finishing as District Runner-Up in the Chesapeake District Championship last weekend, with a ranking of 11 out of 126 teams.
They will compete in the event in Detroit, Michigan on April 25-28 versus thousands of high school students from around the globe.
"While we were not district event winners as we were our rookie year, our third year has by far been our best yet," said Dan Bartels, Collegiate's STEAM Coordinator and co-faculty leader of the robotics team, along with Upper School physics teacher Greg Sesny and Upper School math and computer science teacher Kristine Chiodo. "This year we have been the [robotics] alliance captain in two events, including the District Championship."
