Performance Depicts 4th Grade American History Studies

An American Mosaic, Collegiate School’s annual 4th Grade-wide presentation, took place this morning in the Estes Multipurpose Room and highlighted the students’ study of U.S. history and many famous Americans who fought for people’s rights.
Students were able to choose how they participated in the production. Some 4th Graders, wearing period costumes, played instruments and performed songs, dances and recitations for parents and guests. Others contributed by creating artwork, displayed throughout the Lower School, that represented important historic individuals.

It is critical for the 4th Graders to begin to understand the perspectives and diverse stories of those who fought for the rights promised in the Charters of Freedom (Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights), said 4th Grade teacher Heather Garnett.

“The stories of historic figures such as Tecumseh, Sojourner Truth, Thomas Jefferson and Maggie Walker represent the many like them who have fought for these rights,” she said. “These stories come alive and are deeply felt by all through song, dance, instrumental play, speeches and artwork completed by the 4th Graders."
