Upper School Service Learning Research Inspired By Reality

Upper School teacher Dr. Leah Angell Sievers’ English elective class, Literature of Elegy & Redemption, welcomed Grace Gallagher of the Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation, whose mission it is to be a positive force that works to cultivate awareness and understanding of teenage depression and anxiety.
After sharing Cameron’s story and her journey in creating and developing the foundation, Ms. Gallagher answered questions from the class. Her visit grounded the class’ reading of Ann Patchett’s novel Truth & Beauty in reality, making connections between literature and life. The discussion will assist the students in deciding how to harness skills and resources to develop a service learning project for the class.
