Upper School Students Attend International Leadership Summit

Collegiate Upper School students Deven Pandya and Jensen Richardson traveled to New Dehli, India, for the 12th Annual Community Development and Leadership Summit (CDLS) from Dec. 1-9.
The 2017 conference, themed Inclusive Growth, was held at Modern School, one of Collegiate’s partner schools. Students and faculty from 17 countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Thailand, United Kingdom and the U.S. attended. Over the course of the seven days, CDLS encourages the exchange of ideas among students from different corners of the globe to encourage strong leadership and informed decision making as members of a global community.

Deven and Jensen were accompanied by Director of Economic and Entrepreneurship Education Trina Clemans and Upper School math teacher David Kehlenbeck. The students stayed with separate host families and were fortunate to be guests at Indian weddings, visit historic sites throughout New Dehli and enjoy the kind and generous hospitality typical of Indian families.

"CDLS was a truly amazing experience where students from across the world united to discuss pressing contemporary issues and immerse in the culture of India,” Deven said.

Jensen added, "Through this fantastic opportunity, we were able to experience the best of another culture, have a global exchange of ideas, aided by the splendid preparation Collegiate offered us prior to our trip."

Collegiate embraces global competencies as necessary skills that encourage students to view the world as interconnected with an emphasis on the importance of continual informed awareness of global conditions and perspectives including ways to work collaboratively to problem solve.
