Students Collect 1,655 Pounds of Food at Annual Stone Soup Event

This week, Lower School students gathered in the Estes Multipurpose Room for the Stone Soup Kickoff Celebration, the annual canned food drive to benefit FeedMore Food Bank, an organization serving 34 counties and cities in Central Virginia.
Based on an ancient folk story and an award-winning children's book called Stone Soup, the event featured Lower Schoolers emulating the practice of each community member giving a little to produce a lot.

Christy Dalton, Community Events Manager at FeedMore, attended the event and accepted the donation of 1,655 pounds of food that JK-4th Grade students collected. After school, parent leaders Amy Parrish and Angela Williams, along with other parents, delivered the food to the site.

The JK-12th Grade program continues through April, with students in each class and/or advisory preparing bag lunches for homeless individuals through the Salvation Army.
