Challenges of the Global World

The Challenges of the Global World seminar provides a forum for investigating the world, recognizing the value in hearing the stories and perspectives of those with different life experiences and developing skills to make students more effective in their attempts to turn global challenges into opportunities for action.
In this spirit, the class partnered with Collegiate’s Global Scholar-in-Residence, John Dau, to study the crisis and conflict in South Sudan as it unfolds in real time. Students identified four topics of importance from ongoing studies — energy policy, access to safe water, migration and terrorism — to study in the context of South Sudan.

Students began by interviewing Mr. Dau to understand how the region's crisis affects the people of South Sudan and they continued by utilizing a wide range of resources. Impactful presentations at the conclusion of the course demonstrated their deeper understanding of the ongoing civil conflict on the South Sudanese people.
