Collegiate Junior Selected as Semifinalist for FIRST Dean’s List Award

Emily Mendelson, a junior at Collegiate School and a member of the robotics team TORCH 5804, has been selected as one of nine semifinalists for the FIRST Chesapeake District's Dean's List Award. (FIRST is an acronym that means “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.”)
Begun in 2010, the Dean’s List Award celebrates outstanding student leaders whose passion for and effectiveness at attaining FIRST ideals is exemplary.

Emily’s nomination was based on the Collegiate robotics team’s essay about her and an interview she underwent last weekend at the district competition held at Deep Run High School.

The nine semifinalists will take part in a second interview at the District Championship on April 8 at VCU’s Siegel Center. From this group, four students will be chosen to represent the Chesapeake District at the World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri, in April.

Being selected for the Dean’s List Award is the highest individual honor within FIRST and represents the best and brightest students from more than 135 teams in the district, which includes Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Congratulations, Emily!
