Collegiate Students Celebrate the Holidays with Saturday Academy

Collegiate School students in Advanced Placement Spanish with faculty mentor Esperanza Soria-Nieto organize, facilitate and run an English as a Second Language (ESL) program, Saturday Academy, held on Saturday mornings at Oak Grove-Bellemeade Elementary School in Richmond.
Oak Grove-Bellemeade Elementary has an increasing population of Spanish-speaking students and limited resources to help them build English-language proficiency. Collegiate students assist ESL students with homework and other curriculum-based activities as well as engage in fun, outdoor play.

Saturday Academy creates an empowered and committed community enabling ESL students to enhance language and social skills and helping Collegiate students to build communication and leadership skills.

Collegiate faculty and students will accompany Saturday Academy families on a holiday lights trip to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens to continue celebrating the holidays together.
