What is the Effect of Memory on an Image?

In The Literature of Elegy & Redemption, students examine the ways in which memory is expressed in today’s world: in photographs, in museums, in film, in testimony and in literature.
Throughout the semester, English teacher Leah Sievers ask central questions such as: What is the effect of memory on an image? How does memory inform the present? What purpose does elegiac writing serve a writer and his or her audience? What does it mean to be the one who survives? John Dau, Collegiate School's Global Scholar-in-Residence, has been meeting with students to help them answer these questions as they learn about his experiences as a Sudanese genocide survivor.
